Country in pieces
Old patients cannot find hospital beds. There is a scarcity of oxygen cylinders. Medicines are overcharged and not easily available. Millions are predicting a massive economic slowdown.
India, at least, is in a very bad position. My mom is a volunteer at an NGO, so she helps people find hospital beds, etc. She needs to make at least a million calls for one patient!!
Today we have a lockdown. In India, we have a lockdown on weekends and lockdown-like restrictions on other days when only essential services are allowed.
Many migrant workers are moving back to their hometown. Their funda is that:
- City life is expensive. Many say that why live in a 1bhk in Mumbai when you have a huge house in the village?
- They've lost their jobs. Everyone is cost-cutting. So even small shop owners, etc need to unemploy their delivery people. Moreover, those with small shops need to themselves shut down their work.
- They don't want to suffer again. Last time, migrant workers had a tough time going back to their villages. In their opinion, they'd rather leave now, before a full-time lockdown happens.
How is life for others?
Bad.
My dad has started cost-cutting already. Even for people who own their own companies, we are having a tough time.
